5 cups flour
1 lb. lard or crisco, well chilled
2 tsp. salt
1 egg, beaten
3/4 cup cold water
2 tbsp. vinegar
2 tbsp. brown sugar

Combine flour, lard and salt. Cut in fat till largest pieces are the size of small peas, this works well in a food processor if caution taken not to process too long. In a small bowl mix egg, water, vinegar and brown sugar, add to flour mixture and just combine until evenly moistened, do not overmix. Allow to rest at least one hour, or overnight.

Makes 5 deep pie shells. Freezes well.
